Despacito was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in the year 2017 and was the number one streamed track in just 6 months. The song was a mix of reggaeton and pop that attracted attention to Latin music but as well reggaeton. Billboard's Top 100 featured two songs that were Spanish predominantly, as well as four in 2016. However, during the heights of Despacito's fame in the year 2017 there were 19 mainly Spanish songs that were included in the Top 100. And in 2020 there were 41. Justin Bieber remixed Despacito 2017 with a version in two languages. In the following months, several artistes collaborated with Reggaeton's biggest stars including Drake and Bad Bunny with MIA (2018), Madonna and Maluma and Medellin 2019. In 2020, several Reggaeton artists were complaining about the direction of their genre to the mainstream. However, a younger generation such as Rauw Alejandro was keen to maintain the development. He often incorporated elements from electronic dance music and other forms.
